About Sodium Sulfite

Sodium Sulfite is an inorganic salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help change the shape of hair in products that create waves or straighten hair, and to slow deterioration during storage by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in the product.[4] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.2% based on the free sulfur dioxide content.[2] It is described as a white powder with no pronounced odor, so the phase in which it dissolves should be determined first and it should be dissolved or dispersed in the appropriate phase to help create a uniform formula.[3]
