About Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate

Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate is a mixture of long-chain sulfonate salts obtained by sulfonating C14-16 alpha-olefins. It consists mainly of sodium alkene sulfonates and sodium hydroxyalkane sulfonates. Because it is a form in which ions paired with acidic components are bound, its behavior in water and in a formula may differ from that of the original acid. The type of counterion also affects acidity and compatibility with other ingredients.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create foam during use, and lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
