About Sh-Octapeptide-4
sh-Octapeptide-4 is a single-chain human peptide synthesized to be identical to part of enkephalin, a type of protein, and consists of 8 amino acids: glycine, histidine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, and tyrosine.[1] The number 4 at the end of the name is only an identification number distinguishing different peptides; it does not indicate the amount used or a ranking of efficacy. In cosmetics, it is used to help reduce the formation or visibility of dandruff on the scalp, slow the oxidation of formulation ingredients caused by their reaction with oxygen, and bind metal ions to reduce their effects on color, scent, and formulation stability.[2] It is also used to promote reactions that reduce other ingredients and to help protect the skin from external factors.[2]
