About BHA

BHA is a mixture of isomers of 4-methoxyphenol substituted with tertiary butyl groups, consisting mainly of 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole and its isomer.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to slow the oxidation of formula ingredients caused by reactions with oxygen and prevent the ingredient's characteristic odor or taste from becoming overly noticeable.[3] It consists of a small amount of 2-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole.[1] It is described as a white, waxy solid, so when it is in solid form, melting it first or dispersing it evenly is important to prevent clumping in the formula.[2]
