Xylityl Caprate/Caprylate is an ester in which portions derived from an acid and an alcohol are bonded.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms, help keep water-and-oil emulsions from separating easily, and attract moisture to the formula and skin surface to help maintain hydration.[1] It is also used to inhibit microbial growth in the product to slow deterioration during storage, and to leave the skin surface soft and smooth.[1]
