Xanthan Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt obtained by reacting xanthan gum with 2,3-epoxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce hair tangling and roughness for smoother conditioning, attract moisture to the formula and skin surface to help maintain hydration, and leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth.[2] It is also used to adjust formula viscosity and flow.[2]
