Tribehenin PEG-20 Esters is a complex mixture obtained through the transesterification reaction of tribehenin and PEG-20.[1] The number 20 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. With the same base structure, changing this number may affect water miscibility and the formulation's viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to leave the skin feeling soft and smooth.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
