About Triacetin

Triacetin is the triester of glycerin and acetic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms, form a thin film on the skin, hair, or nail surface after application, and keep the characteristic odor or taste of raw materials from becoming too prominent.[2] It is also used to add flexibility so that films or polymer layers do not become overly rigid and to dissolve other ingredients to create a uniform formula.[2]
