About Tea-PEG-3 Cocamide Sulfate

TEA-PEG-3 Cocamide Sulfate is the triethanolamine salt of a mixture of sulfated esters of PEG-3 cocamide.[1] The number 3 indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; within the same base structure, changing this number may also change water compatibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and form foam during use.[3] It is also used to help ingredients that do not dissolve readily in water disperse more evenly in the water phase and to lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and disperse evenly.[3] In Europe, the maximum level is 2.5% in leave-on products; no separate maximum level is specified for rinse-off products. Nitrosamines must also be no more than 50 μg/kg.[2]
