About Tea-Dextrin Octenylsuccinate

TEA-Dextrin Octenylsuccinate is the triethanolamine salt of the reaction product of octenylsuccinic anhydride and dextrin.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to help keep water-and-oil emulsions from separating easily.[3] It is also used to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smoother conditioning, to attract moisture to the formula and skin surface and help maintain moisturization, and to leave the skin’s surface feeling soft and smooth.[3] It is used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[3] In Europe, a maximum of 2.5% is permitted in leave-on products, while no separate maximum concentration is specified for rinse-off products. Nitrosamines must also be no more than 50 μg/kg.[2]
