About Sulfated Castor Oil
Sulfated castor oil is an oil composed primarily of the sodium salts of sulfated triglycerides from castor oil.[1] Because it primarily contains fatty components obtained from sulfated castor oil, it mixes better with oils than with water and is suitable for adding slip and a supple feel to skin or hair while reducing the sensation of moisture evaporating quickly. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and attract moisture to the formula and skin surface to help maintain a moisturized feel.[2] It is also used to reduce surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
