Steartrimonium Bromide is a quaternary ammonium salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or cling together, reduce tangling and roughness for smoother hair, and inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the product to delay deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted up to a maximum of 0.1%.[2]
