About Steareth-5 Stearate
Steareth-5 Stearate is the ester of Steareth-5 and stearic acid.[1] The number 5 at the end of the name indicates the average number of ethylene oxide units added; this changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to condition the skin surface, leaving it soft and smooth.[2]
