About Steareth-3

Steareth-3 is the polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 3 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between the water-attracting and oil-attracting portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
