About Steareth-2

Steareth-2 is the polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 2 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between the water-attracting and fat-attracting parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
