About Steareth-16

Steareth-16 is the polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 16 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; it changes the balance between the water-attracting and fat-attracting portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so that ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
