About Steareth-13
Steareth-13 is the polyethylene glycol ether of stearyl alcohol.[1] The number 13 at the end of the name refers to the average number of ethylene oxide units added. It changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving portions, creating differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to make emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
