About Steareth-12

Steareth-12 is the polyethylene glycol derivative of stearyl alcohol.[1] n is an average of 12. The number 12 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units, changing the balance between the water-affinitive and oil-affinitive portions and creating differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, to dissolve other raw materials and create a uniform formula, and to reduce surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
