Steardimonium Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together; to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed; and to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smooth manageability.[2] It is also used to hold the desired hairstyle in place and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
