About Squalene

Squalene is an unsaturated, branched isoprenoid hydrocarbon found in large amounts in shark liver oil.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, to lower friction on the skin or hair and add a smooth feel, and to help smooth hair by reducing tangling and rough feel.[3] It is also used to replenish an oily feel on the skin or hair after cleansing and to leave the skin’s surface feeling soft and smooth.[3] It is described as a yellow liquid with a characteristic odor, so the order and temperature used to mix it with other oil-soluble ingredients affect the uniformity of the finished product.[2]
