About Sorbitol

Sorbitol is a hexahydric alcohol.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to draw moisture into the formulation and the skin surface to help maintain moisturization, to prevent the characteristic odor or taste of a raw material from becoming too pronounced, and to add fragrance to a product or adjust the characteristic odor of a raw material.[3] It is also used to leave the skin surface soft and smooth.[3] It is described as a colorless solid with no noticeable odor, so identifying whether it dissolves in water or oil first and then dissolving or dispersing it in the appropriate phase makes it easier to create a uniform formulation.[2]
