About Sorbic Acid

Sorbic Acid is an organic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in products and delay deterioration during storage.[4] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.6% (based on acid content).[2] It is described as a white powder with a characteristic odor, so it is easier to create a uniform formula by first determining whether it dissolves in water or oil and then dissolving or dispersing it in the appropriate phase.[3]
