About Sorbeth-40

Sorbeth-40 is a polyethylene glycol ether of sorbitol with an average of 40 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, attract moisture to the formula and skin's surface to help maintain moisturization, and dissolve other ingredients to create a uniform formula.[2] It is also used to control a formula's viscosity and flow.[2]
