About Sodium Stearate

Sodium stearate is the sodium salt of stearic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2] It is also used to adjust a formula’s viscosity and flow.[2]
