About Sodium Silicate
Sodium Silicate is the sodium salt of silicic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help inhibit corrosion of the contents or packaging and to buffer the formulation so its acidity does not change abruptly.[3] It is described as a powder, so checking whether it dissolves in water or oil first and then dissolving or dispersing it in the appropriate phase can make it easier to achieve a uniform formulation.[2]
