About Sodium Salicylate

Sodium Salicylate is the sodium salt of salicylic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to alter the taste or odor of raw materials to make them difficult to ingest, and to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in products, slowing deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.5% based on acid content.[2] However, it cannot be used in products for children under 3 years of age.[2]
