Sodium Polystyrene Sulfonate is a polymer.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to keep emulsions of water and oil from separating easily, form a thin film on the surface of skin, hair, or nails after application, and give liquid formulas a gel-like form and viscosity. It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly, and to adjust the viscosity and flow of a formula.[2] [2]
