About Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate

Sodium Polynaphthalenesulfonate is the sodium salt of the condensation polymerization product of naphthalenesulfonic acid and formaldehyde.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to help prevent emulsions of water and oil from separating, to give liquid formulations a gel-like form and viscosity, and to help ingredients that do not dissolve well in water disperse more evenly in the water phase.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
