About Sodium Polyacrylate

Sodium Polyacrylate is the sodium salt of polyacrylic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to absorb liquids such as water or oil in a formula, help formula ingredients bind together to maintain its form, and reduce friction on the skin or hair for a smoother feel.[2] It is also used to help prevent emulsions of water and oil from separating easily, form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, or nails after application, and hold hair in the desired shape.[2] It is used to leave the skin surface feeling soft and smooth and to adjust the viscosity and flow of the formula.[2]
