Sodium Nitrite is an inorganic salt.[1] The solubility and charge state of Sodium Nitrite vary depending on the components forming the salt and the acidity of the formula, and this also affects how it interacts with other ingredients. In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit corrosion of the contents or packaging.[3] In Europe, it may be used as a corrosion-inhibiting ingredient at up to 0.2%, but it must not be used with secondary or tertiary amines, or with other ingredients that can form nitrosamines.[2]
