About Sodium Methoxy PPG-2 Acetate

Sodium Methoxy PPG-2 Acetate is an ingredient in salt form, formed by pairing an acid and a base.[1] The number 2 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. This number and the type of fatty component attached to it affect oil miscibility and application feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help rinse sebum and impurities away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended, and help ingredients that do not dissolve well in water disperse more evenly in the water phase.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
