About Sodium/Mea-PEG-3 Cocamide Sulfate

Sodium/MEA-PEG-3 Cocamide Sulfate is a mixture of the monoethanolamine and sodium salts of the sulfate ester of PEG-3 Cocamide.[1] The number 3 in the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units; within the same base structure, changing this number may alter water miscibility and the formula’s viscosity and spreadability. In cosmetics, it is used to help wash away sebum and impurities with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and increase the amount of foam and help it last longer.[3] It is also used to help water-insoluble ingredients disperse more evenly in the water phase and reduce surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and disperse evenly.[3] In Europe, the secondary amine content of the finished product is limited to a maximum of 0.5%, and nitrosamine content must not exceed 50 μg/kg.[2]
