About Sodium/Mea Laureth-2 Sulfosuccinate
Sodium/MEA Laureth-2 Sulfosuccinate is a mixture of the sodium and monoethanolamine salts of the laureth-2 half ester of sulfosuccinic acid.[1] The number 2 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities be washed away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and increase the amount of foam while helping it last longer.[3] It also helps ingredients that do not dissolve well in water disperse more evenly in the water phase and lowers surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[3] In Europe, the content of secondary amines in the finished product is limited to a maximum of 0.5%, and nitrosamine content must not exceed 50 ฮผg/kg.[2]
