About Sodium Laureth-4 Phosphate
Sodium Laureth-4 Phosphate is the sodium salt of a complex mixture of Laureth-4 phosphate esters.[1] The number 4 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between water-loving and oil-loving portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and form foam during use.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
