About Sodium Formate

Sodium Formate is an organic salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to buffer the formulation so its acidity does not change rapidly and to inhibit microbial growth in the product, slowing deterioration during storage.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.5% (calculated as acid content).[2]
