About Sodium Carrageenan

Sodium Carrageenan is the sodium salt of carrageenan.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, to help ingredients in a formula bind together and maintain its form, and to keep emulsions of water and oil from separating easily.[2] It is also used to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, or nails after application, and to adjust the viscosity and flow of a formula.[2]
