Sodium C12-15 Pareth-12 Carboxylate is the sodium salt of C12-15 Pareth-12 Carboxylic Acid and generally has the following structure, where R is a C12-15 alkyl group and n is 11 on average.[1] The number 12 at the end of the name refers to the average number of added ethylene oxide units; it changes the balance between the water-loving and oil-loving parts, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and skin feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water and to lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
