About Sodium Benzoate

Sodium Benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to inhibit corrosion of the contents or packaging, to keep the characteristic odor or taste of an ingredient from being overly noticeable, and to slow deterioration during storage by inhibiting the growth of microorganisms in the product.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it may be used at up to 2.5% in rinse-off products other than oral-care products, based on acid content.[2]
