About PPG-4 Laureth-5
PPG-4 Laureth-5 is a polyoxypropylene, polyoxyethylene ether of lauryl alcohol.[1] The number 5 at the end of the name indicates the average number of added ethylene oxide units. It changes the balance between the water-attracting and fat-attracting portions, resulting in differences in cleansing power, emulsifying ability, and sensory feel. In cosmetics, it is used to help keep emulsified water-and-oil formulas from separating, to leave the skin’s surface soft and smooth, and to lower surface tension so raw materials wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
