About PPG-25 Dimethicone

PPG-25 Dimethicone is a polyethylene glycol derivative of dimethicone to which an average of 25 moles of propylene oxide has been added.[1] The number 25 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units. Along with the type of fatty component attached, this number affects oil miscibility and the feel during application. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsions in which water and oil are evenly mixed, reduce tangling and roughness in the hair for a smoother finish, and leave the skin surface soft and smooth.[2] It is also used to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
