PPG-1-Deceth-5 is a polyoxyethylene, polyoxypropylene ether of decyl alcohol, with x averaging 1 and y averaging 5.[1] The number 1 after PPG indicates the average number of linked propylene oxide units; together with the type of fatty component attached, this affects the degree to which it mixes with oils and the feel on application. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water and to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed.[2]
