Potassium Metabisulfite is an inorganic salt.[1] In cosmetics, it is used in products that create waves or straighten hair to help change its shape, to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in products and delay deterioration during storage, and to cause reactions that reduce other ingredients.[3] In Europe, when used as a preservative, it is permitted at up to 0.2% based on the content of free sulfur dioxide.[2]
