About Polysorbate 81
Polysorbate 81 is composed mainly of monoesters and is a mixture of oleate esters of sorbitan and sorbitol condensed with approximately 5 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed and to lower surface tension so raw materials can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
