About Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80 consists mainly of monoesters and is a mixture of sorbitan and sorbitol oleate esters condensed with approximately 20 moles of ethylene oxide.[1] In cosmetics, it is used to alter the taste or odor of raw materials to make them difficult to ingest, create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and lower surface tension so ingredients wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
