About Polyquaternium-88

Polyquaternium-88 is a polymerized quaternary ammonium salt.[1] The number 88 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, to help keep the formulation’s condition and properties from changing easily during storage, and to lower surface tension so ingredients can wet, mix, and spread evenly.[2]
