About Polyquaternium-85
Polyquaternium-85 is a surfactant that acts at the boundary between water and oil.[1] The number 85 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged parts are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, to form a thin film on the skin, hair, and nail surfaces after application, and to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smooth conditioning.[1] It is also used to hold the desired hair shape in place.[1]
