About Polyquaternium-84
Polyquaternium-84 is an interfacial ingredient that acts at the boundary between water and oil.[1] The number 84 following Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to reduce static electricity that causes hair strands to lift or stick together, to form a thin film on the surface of the skin, hair, and nails after application, and to reduce hair tangling and a rough feel, leaving hair smooth.[1] It is also used to hold the desired hairstyle in place.[1]
