About Polyquaternium-80

Polyquaternium-80 is a complex crosslinked polymer of chlorolauryldimethylammonium substituted with 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol and propyl chlorohydrin on lauryl glucoside.[1] The number 80 after Polyquaternium is only an identifying number used to distinguish different polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the amount or molecular size. Its positively charged parts are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities be washed away with water, to create emulsified formulations in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and to reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smoother conditioning.[2]
