About Polyquaternium-79
Polyquaternium-79 is a complex polymer obtained by reacting 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol and decyl glucoside, followed by reaction with chlorostearyl dimethyl ammonium substituted with propylchlorohydrin.[1] The number 79 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number used to distinguish different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate the content or molecular size. Its positively charged parts are used to reduce static in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities wash away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly blended, and reduce tangling and roughness in hair for smooth grooming.[2]
