About Polyquaternium-78

Polyquaternium-78 is a complex polymer in which chloro-lauryl-dimethyl-ammonium, substituted with 1,3-dichloro-2-propanol and propylchlorohydrin, is sequentially cross-linked to decyl glucoside.[1] The number 78 after Polyquaternium is only an identification number distinguishing different Polyquaterniums; it does not indicate content or molecular size. Its positively charged portions are used to reduce static electricity in hair and leave a thin film. In cosmetics, it is used to help sebum and impurities rinse away with water, create emulsified formulas in which water and oil are evenly mixed, and reduce tangling and rough feel in hair for smoother grooming.[2]
